Bella Cook's VISA 0150 Documentation
Welcome! My main website is bellajeancook.com but the site is down right now because I'm updating it so you can find my VISA 0150 projects here right now! :)
Project 1: Color as a Medium
For Project 1, I started with photos from a nostalgia themed photoshoot I conducted over break so I would have a cohesive group of photos to work with. I used those photos to create two distinct pieces that each use color in a unique way. The monotone piece uses CMYK colors and is best suited to be viewed when printed out. The piece with three profiles uses RGB colors are is best suited to be viewed digitally. I enjoyed creating such different pieces from the same orginal material while playing with color.

Project 2: Cutting Line
For Project 2, I laser cut a pattern of eyes into a denim hair bow as a play on the saying "eyes in the back of your head." To create the pattern, I used a photo I took of my eye with a boca effect and then inverted the image. Then, I used the bitmap function in photoshop to create image that could be laser cut onto a surface. Then, I duplicated my image to create a pattern and resized the image into various positions on my bow template. I used the denim settings on the laser cutter to cut my pattern into the denim. However, the laser cutter setting was not as strng as I hoped and the pattern showed up nevr lightly on the bow. I definitely want to play around with the settings on the laser cutter more in the future to figure out the best settings to engrave denim!
Project 3: Steal This Book
For Project 3, I created a book only using photos taken from the web. Since I wasn't allowed to use any original content I thought it would be fun to create a game based around the idea of AI images becoming more and more popular throughout the internet. I used photographic portraits of people that I found while scrolling through Pinterest and made them into a game where players have to guess whether the photos are real (taken by a camera) or AI generated. I wanted to mimic the action of scrolling on a phone so I used accordian folds so that players would scroll through the photos while playing.
Final Project: Metamorphosis
For my Final Project, I created a photo book. The story of the vital and delicate interdependence between humans and nature is told through the photographic series, Metamorphosis. The series explores the relationship between a girl and the natural world that sustains her, mimicking the lifecycle of a butterfly. The series celebrates the essential bond between humans and nature as we see nature protect the girl and help her thrive. In return, the girl repays the favor and becomes a protector of the earth. I took these photos this past weekend while filming a project from my Foundation Media Class. The photo series takes photos and stills from the "dream" portion of the film to tell a story that is not fully explored throughout the film as the film focuses mainly on a differet plot line. I find it fascinating how different stories are better told through different mediums.
